The province has three Customs Points. The Luapula Customs Points exist at three border crossing locations. The most prominent of the Luapula Province Border Crossing Points is Chembe in Chembe District. It’s used mostly by travellers between the Luapula and Copperbelt Provinces who pass through the Democratic Republic of Congo, using the PedicleRoad. The second one is Kashiba in Mwense District, where a Pontoon is currently utilised to ferry vehicles, goods and people across the Luapula River. The third is Lupiya, close to the northern tip of Lake Mweru, in Chienge District.

Customs Posts – Luapula

Mwense is a Zambian Town. Across the border, opposite this town, is a Congolese town of Kasenga. Beyond the nothern boundery of the Luapula Province, and Zambia, at the northern tip of Lake Mweru, is another Congolese town of Pweto. Trucks transporting goods as well as other vehicles and travellers between the two Congolese towns that choose to use Zambian roads pass through Zambia, crossing the two border points of Kashiba and Lupiya.

The Kashiba border crossing point is not only used by vehicles and travellers between Kasenga and Pweto, but by vehicles and travellers between the DR Congo and Zambia as well. Trucks transporting goods between the two countries and beyond, through Nakonde, another Zambian Border Post on the boundary between Zambia and Tanzania, as well as business travellers and the general public use the Kashiba border crossing point too.
