The Tuta Road in Zambia connects the districts of Serenje in Central Province and Samfya in Luapula Province. It runs from Mukanda in Serenje District to Musaila in Samfya District, linking the Great North Road to the Mansa Samfya Road. The 251Km road has a bridge across the Luapula River. The Luapula River Bridge, also called the Mukuku Bridge or Tuta Bridge, was the first one to be constructed across the Luapula River.
The name of the Tuta Road emanated from the fact that motorists could drive on the road at reasonable and constant speeds without interruption, especially soon after the road was constructed. For the bridge, the name of Mukuku Bridge was taken from the word Mukuku which in the Zambian Bemba language means River Current.
Construction of the road and bridge was necessitated by the need to have a route to and from the Luapula Province in addition to the one through the Congolese territory for travellers between the province and the provinces to the south. It was done with the assistance of the Chinese government.
