Cassava, Maize And Soya Bean Production In Luapula

Cassava has for many years been the staple food crop for the people of Luapula Province in Zambia. The crop has, until recently only been grown at a subsistence level. Maize has also been produced, but in much smaller quantities and consumed mostly while fresh.

Newly available markets for Cassava have made it possible for more and more of this crop to be produced. The same goes for Maize, in whose case buying depots have been set up across the province.

Soya beans have only recently been introduced to Luapula Province as a commercial crop. With a relatively good price and available markets both within and outside the country, Soya beans are being produced in increasingly larger quantities too.
