Impembwe at Shimulundu

Shimulundu is a village in Chieftainess Kanyembo’s area in Nchelenge District of the Luapula Province in Zambia. Here, like at Chomba and Toka, exists a Defensive Trench (Impembwe) dug during the years of tribal migrations.

The trench at Shimulundu encloses a circular area of land, unlike the one at Chomba which encloses a rectangular area.

Although much longer, only 5.4Km of the trench is clearly visible. The trench encloses an area of land larger than 3Km² in size. Much larger than the areas enclosed by the other two trenches combined.
