Lake Mweru is shared between the Republic of Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo. In Zambia, it’s shared by the districts of Nchelenge and Chienge, both of which are in the Luapula Province.
The lake gets rough and dangerous for people travelling in small boats and canoes. There is, however, a passenger boat ment for conveyance of people on the lake. The 120 Seater MV Kapale in Nchelenge District offers safety and comfort to travellers between the town of Nchelenge on the shore of the lake and Kilwa Island. Tourists are able to travel to the Zambian island on the boat and camp at a site available on the island or just go out on boat cruises.

The upper deck of the boat gives a better view of Isokwe Island as the boat cruises by or Kilwa Island as it approaches or leaves the island.
